Page 1 Consider (03/06)

  • Special Delivery: Soccer star David Beckham may be injured, but that didn't stop him from looking hot delivering football shirts to kids at a public park in Spain. (ExpoSay)
  • Bypassing Reason: Why don't we just abolish gym class, children's sports and sensible eating completely? (AP)

  • Hard Copy: Remember that N.Y. Times story about a 13-year-old boy named Justin Berry who made hundreds of thousands of dollars through his own Webcam pornography business? It seems at least $2,000 of it came in the form of a check from Times reporter Kurt Eichenwald, who neglected to tell his editors or readers that he'd given the youngster the money before he ever disclosed to Justin who he really was. Worse yet, the existence of the payment only emerged as part of a criminal proceeding involving Berry in which a Michigan man is charged with criminal sexual conduct, enticing a minor to commit immoral acts and distributing child pornography. Regarding the payment, The Times said: "The check should have been disclosed to editors and readers, like the other actions on the youth’s behalf that Mr. Eichenwald, who left The Times last fall, described in his article and essay." I have my reasons for not wanting to say too much more about this, but Gawker pretty much nailed what I was thinking. (Gawker)
  • Hill If I Know: Presidential wannabe Hillary Rodham Clinton went on the down low last Friday at a Human Rights Campaign event and pledged her allegiance to the gays. But is it too little too late? (AP)
  • Walk Away, Renee: I wasn't there, but doesn't it sound like Joyce Wadler was unnecessarily hard on Dr. Renee Richards when she went to the former tennis player's house to interview her? I'm uncomfortable just reading about it. (NYT)
  • Big Love Surprise: Despite the fact that in 2003 the U.S. Supreme Court ruled in Lawrence v. Texas that states cannot make laws regarding private sexual conduct, Utah lawmakers are refusing to remove a law banning sodomy for all but married opposite-sex couples. Then again, a sizable portion of people in Utah think it's OK to be married to more than one person, too. (365Gay)
  • Hate on Ice: Tony Brennan, a coach for a University of Massachusetts women's hockey team, has been charged with gay-bashing a fellow student that resulted in massive head injuries. The victim, whose name is being withheld, was beaten on campus by a man who jumped out of car and began yelling homophobic epithets at the 20-year-old student. The young man was then beaten and received a concussion and fractured eye socket. (365Gay)

  • Who Wants an STD? Good lord, is that Eddie Haskell Spencer Pratt at it again? Who else could be behind this embarrassing advertorial on Us Weekly's Web site -- Win a Date With Brody Jenner: "[He] is only 23, but he's already one of the hottest catches in Hollywood. The son of Olympian Bruce Jenner and actress Linda Thompson (and step-brother of Kim Kardashian), Brody made a name for himself as a Guess model before starring with his brother Brandon in the FOX reality series 'Princes of Malibu.'" You know your dating resume is weak when one of your "highlights" is that the chick who made a porn video with Brandy's little brother that she can't even "accidentally get released to be like Paris" is your step-sister ... and the reality show that you were "on" was scrapped after only three episodes aired. But, then again, what were they going to mention -- his loving relationships with the girls of Orange County or the way his "agent" mocked his anorexic childhood buddy ex? (USWeekly)
  • RIP: Bob Hattoy, who became famous for a few minutes as the Gay Man With AIDS in the run-up to the first Clinton election, died on Sunday. He was 56. Rick Jacobs wrote a nice piece about him on Huffington Post: "I did not know Bob then, noting only that he was bold to speak publicly about his fight with a disease that the Reagan/Bush-Bush/Qualye administrations had pretended did not exist."
