Page 1 Consider (08/23)

  • Cruise Control? Concerned about his erratic behavior, Paramount ended its production deal with The King of Crazy himself, Tom Cruise. For some reason I'd assumed this was just one of those rumors, but it looks like all of Hollywood agrees that cleaning up this freak's reputation is a Mission Impossible they're not willing to pay for. • Tubes Tied? The greatest invention of the 21st century (YouTube) announced its foray into advertising yesterday, with a tie-in to Paris Hilton's debut album. Is this the beginning of the end (double meaning intended). (WP)

  • Barking Up the Wrong 9-Foot Tree: This 13-year-old is 6-foot-8 and he's playing Little League baseball? (Yahoo)

  • Anchor Lust: ABC has announced that "Primetime" hottie Chris Cuomo will be working the early shift as news anchor of "Good Morning America" starting next month. Lucky for me -- who hasn't seen "GMA" since Nancy Dussault and David Hartman co-hosted, Cuomo, 36, will remain at "Primetime," where he became co-anchor in April 2004, and also continue as ABC News' senior legal correspondent.

  • Paulina Gretzky: Is the daughter of NHL legend Wayne Gretzky and actress Janet Jones a compulsive gambler, too? (PageSix)

  • Sorry, Britney: Starting next week, the marriage license bureau in Las Vegas will no longer be open 24 hours a day. This is strangely good news as it means fewer complete strangers will get married (and quickly divorced) in drunken stupors, a privilege that same-sex couples who have been together for decades aren't allowed to exercise with all of their faculties in order. (AP)

  • Death Becomes Them: More bad news for the overweight -- and we're not talking obese here, either. (WP)

  • Suddenly, I'm Into It: Blythe Danner and Carla Gugino will star in an off-Broadway revival of Tennesee Williams' "Suddenly, Last Summer," the definitive tale of boy lustcannibalismalism (can you think of a better one?). Mark Brokaw ("The Dying Gaul") will direct the play, presented by the Roundabout Theatre Company. Previews will begin October 20, with the show opening November 15 at the Roundabout's Harold and Miriam Steinberg Center for Theatre/Laura Pels Theatre. (Advocate)

  • From She to He: Existential anxiety, gender loyalty and political identity, OH MY! (NYT) (Shane Caya displays his mastectomy scars, right)

  • Tennis, Anyone? Can't get enough tennis blogging? Here's another one I'm checking out these days. (No Man's Land)

  • Better Late Than Never: Is the American public starting to "get" the difference between Iraq and 9/11? Sure looks like it. (NYT)

  • Back to School: This college professor went undercover as a college freshman and wrote a book about it. How fun. (NYT)
