Page 1 Consider (08/11)

  • Blood Is Thicker Than Water: Slugger Mike Piazza returned to a hero's welcome at Shea, but in Game 2 he played like too much of one for the liking of Mets fans, who booed him on his second home run. All is forgiven now as the Mets still won the game -- and won again in Game Three yesterday to sweep the series. (Newsday)

  • What a Drag: Remember Robert Durst? He's the multimillionaire real estate heir who dressed as a mute woman and lived in a flop house in Galveston, Texas, when he "accidentally" shot and killed his neighbor and then chopped the guy's body up into little pieces and dumped it into the Galveston Bay (the head was never recovered). It seems Durst was spotted roaming the Upper West Side yesterday. Investigators still want to talk more to him about his first wife's mysterious disappearance in 1982 -- oh, and the murder of his "good friend" writer Susan Berman, who was shot at her home in Los Angeles the same day she was to be interviewed about Durst's wife's disappearance. (NYP)

  • Roger That: OK, I did take back a bit of what I said about Rafael Nadal when he impressively got to the finals at Wimbledon. But here we are in hard-court season and once again, Nadal gets bounced in the third round (by Tomas Berdych). It's hard for Roger Federer to get any wins against Nadal if he can't get to the finals anywhere but on clay ... (Ticker)

  • Straight to P-Town? I never really "got" Provincetown (a bunch of lesbians and drag queens galore), but what do I know anyway? Now Escapes takes a crack at 36 hours on the gay Cape and offers a few insights: you'll need to rent a bike; there's lots of good seafood; and that really was John Waters and Norman Mailer but most likely wasn't Cher you saw strolling along Commercial Street. (NYT)

  • Chelsea Boy Rules: The New York Times asks if testosterone builds a better athlete. Work out a week in a Chelsea gym and you'll have your answer. (NYT)

  • Total Met Market: It seems the Long Island club where Mets catcher Paul Lo Duca met his teenage girlfriend is a notorious meat market for older men/younger women. Imagine that. (Newsday)

  • Terror Plot: I'm glad the British authorities thwarted an alleged terror plot to blow up planes flying between Britain and the U.S., but I'm gonna need to see some real evidence before I'll be willing to let it justify further incompetence and belligerence of airport security staffers. If you recall, the last time Michael Chertoff got all worked up about a big terror plot that was broken up (the Sears Tower bombing) it turned out "the plot" was being orchestrated by Islamic extremists who studied the bible(!) and had no photos of the Sears Tower, had never been to the Sears Tower, and had no floor plan of the Sears Tower. Nice work, slick. (WP)

  • Gay Cinema: LOGO released its list of 50 greatest gay films of all time. I know these lists are very hot nowadays, but they sure missed the boat in my opinion. "Parting Glances" number 29 -- are you kidding me? (LOGO)

  • Bushisms: I cringed when I first read this and I didn't even know there was an uproar about it. Has President Bush ever said something that didn't come out wrong? (LAT)
