Page 1 Consider (06/05)

  • Anderson Cooper 369: Heiress Gloria Vanderbilt's youngest son is making the rounds hawking his new memoir, "Dispatches From the Edge," yet he somehow has managed to completely avoid the old sexuality question from any of his interviewers. (I, for one, do not believe in "outing" and feel he should come out when he's good and ready.) Lucky for you, Jossip doesn't play by those rules ... (Jossip)

  • World Wide Weirdos: Didn't think Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie could get any stranger? Think again. (Independent Online)

  • Ladies' Day: Mauresmo and Sharapova are sent packing, Hingis will pick up in the third set today to decide her fate. (Ticker)

  • He Can Only Do So Much: David Wright hit two homers, including one to tie things up, but the Mets still found a way to lose to the Giants. (AP)

  • The Not-So-Good Girl: Her new movie, "The Break-Up," may have opened at No. 1 at the box office this weekend, but even The New York Times is concerned about how horrible Jennifer Aniston's movie career is. (NYT)

  • New York City Habitats: The average one-bedroom in a non-doorman building ranges from about $1,850 in Hell's Kitchen to $2,850 in SoHo or TriBeCa, but what can you get for $1,000? (NYT)

  • Bushwhacked: Your poll numbers are in the toilet and there are midterm elections around the corner, so what do you do? Propose a constitutional amendment to ban same-sex marriages, of course! (Newsweek)

I actually like Anderson Cooper a lot as an reporter and I'm glad CNN has him on for two hours each night, but I am dismayed that he took an hour of free publicity (for his book) on Larry King Friday night and did not take viewers calls. If he did that to avoid calls about his sexual orientation, that's more than just being discreet, which itself is troubling. That's ducking questions, and as a man who interviews others for a living there's a word for that, and it's not mere irony.

I think Brad and Angie made a very smart move by buying those addresses. I don't think they're planning on actually doing much with them, but it certainly ensures that some porn magnate won't be doing something icky with them either.

And as for Cooper, I also thought it was odd that he didn't have any calls during his King hour. I agree with Lavi. I wish SOME public male figure (the lesbians seem to be a lot braver...Etheridge...lang...Nixon...Bono) would have the balls to come out.
