L.C. Heads for 'The Hills'

So "Laguna Beach" princess Lauren Conrad's new spinoff, "The Hills," debuted on MTV last night. No real surprises there. It follows the same format as its predecessor (the requisite name on the screen because everybody looks the same is my fave) but is a little extra fun for anyone who's ever lived in West Hollywood seeing all the local haunts (and what is up with that, anyway? there was just a big article in the L.A. Times about how straight people were taking over yet another gay ghetto and this just seems to bolster that claim).

As the New York Times review of it said yesterday, Lauren's roommate, Heidi, is too much to believe. Her meeting with her school's admissions director pretty much sums up everything that is wrong with "this generation." Naturally, Heidi thinks she should never work a day in her life and if she does decide to grace the world with the slightest interest in a career then everyone should drop everything and appoint her Top Dog:

After telling her interviewer that she spent high school shopping and cutting class, she lays her ambitions on the line: "I want to be the fun party P.R. girl in L.A." The skeptical interviewer tells Heidi that party-promoting takes work and proposes that she work in retail sales first. Heidi takes the withering suggestion in the spirit in which it's offered, and responds flatly, "Yeah, I don't think I could do that."

Let the fun begin ... (and how awkward does L.C. look in this promo photo leaning back on some weird Astroturf?)
