'Smoke' Break

Michael and I saw "Thank You for Smoking" over the weekend. I loved every minute of it. I haven't read Christopher Buckley's book on which it's based, but if this is the film that came out of it, I was stupid not to have. (That To-Read List just keeps getting longer and longer.)

Aaron Eckhart is truly outstanding as Big Tobacco's chief spokesman, Nick Naylor, who lobbies on behalf of cigarettes while trying to remain a role model for his 12-year-old son. Eckhart is the kind of actor that it seems Hollywood doesn't know what to do with. Too handsome to be an average guy, but not handsome enough to be a romantic leading man. Too smart to play a grown-up fratboy idiot (Craig Kilborn's available now anyway), but too handsome to play really smart. But every so often it seems like a plump indie role comes along ("In the Company of Men") that's tailor-made for him, and this is one you don't want to miss.

In addition, supporting roles by Rob Lowe, Kate Hudson, William H. Macy, Robert Duvall, Maria Bello and David Koechner all pay big dividends.

I always meant to read that, too, but never did. Thanks for reminding me about it.

Aaron Eckhart...yum!
I've always had a thing for this man, since seeing him in, "In the Company of Men"
I liked what you said about him, because I could never understand why he isn't listed as La La Lands' "It" guy!!!
Damn You, Hollywood!!!
