Well, it may not be overly romantic, but Michael and I are both getting what we want for Valentine's Day this year. Oh -- I mean besides each other.
It all started when he became obsessed with that Time-Warner "70s Music Explosion" infomercial starring Greg Brady. Michael began talking about it constantly, telling me how it had to be the greatest collection of songs ever. (Very iPod-ready.) I finally caught it the other night and was instantly hooked, too. Although I'm a child of the '80s -- and most of my all-time fave albums come from that era -- the '70s were arguably music's richest decade. This 10-disc set has it all, so deciding it was best to follow his behest, I ordered it for him for Valentine's Day.
Michael responded nicely in return to my not-so-subtle hint to get us tickets to the upcoming Go-Go's show at Nokia Theater. "Beauty and the Beat" is one of those all-time favorite albums -- and I can't wait for this show. We were slated to see the gals last summer in West Hollywood on the fabulous Sunset Strip, but then Belinda's voice gave out and they canceled the gig. We did manage to see them later that summer in Atlantic City, but the audience was packed with a bunch of confused senior citizens who'd obviously been given comp'd tickets from the hotel ("what are Go-Go's?"), so the vibe was completely off. (In all fairness, Dorothy and Bernice at our table were very nice ladies and even tried to clap along during "Head Over Heels.")
A 25th-anniversary gig in New York City should be just the antidote ...

I was at the Atlantic City show as well. And while the audience was terrible, the Go-Go's sounded amazing. Belinda's voice was in perfect form (believe it or not), and in their 40s they play harder, faster and considerably better than they did in the 80s. The NYC show should be great fun.
Man, I cant standdddddd Jane!
