Robby Ginepri Ousted

As predicted earlier this week, Robby Ginepri went down with little fight in the first round at Wimbledon on Wednesday, losing to fellow American Mardy Fish in straight sets. What's eating Robby Ginepri remains a mystery.

    A Year Later

It was a year ago Labor Day weekend that I began writing my blog. I'd just come home from seeing hotties Robby Ginepri and Tommy Haas battle it out in five exhilarating sets in the third round of the U.S. Open and needed to share the experience with my family and friends. I didn't want to write the same e-mail ten times so I whipped together a cheesy-looking blog via Blogspot and sent 'em all the link, half-thinking I'd maybe never use it again.

1,350 posts later, it seems fitting that Ginepri and Haas would have a rematch on the (212)'s birthday. Unfortunately, this year I was watching it at work working instead of enjoying the match courtside. but as the photos illustrate, it was equally dramatic this time around. Tommy got his revenge, holding on even after Robby came back from two sets down to take it to a fifth set tiebreaker. I like them both, so I didn't really care who won, although we might not be seeing too much more of Ginepri when his ranking plummets out of the top 75 or so when last year's semifinal points fall off (we'll always have my blog's archives).

Anyway, thanks for reading. Now get ready for the sophomore jinx ...

    Robby Ginepri: Haven't We Met?

He's some kind of beautiful loser ... (Keep it up, Robby, and you won't be in the main draws anymore and there won't be new photos of you on Yahoo Sports)

    Beard Watch: Robby Ginepri

After a disasterous first half of 2006, (212) fave Robby Ginepri hasn't had a bad summer/fall. He knocked out Top 10 player Tommy Robredo this week in Madrid before losing to Roger Federer in the quarterfinals. More importantly, however, he's sporting a new scruffy look. Try to guess if I might like it ...

Where Have You Gone, Robby Ginepri?

After a stellar 2005 it's been nothing but bad news for (212) fave Robby Ginepri. After only winning three matches all year, Robby finally had a decent result last week at the Stella Artois tuneup for Wimbledon (photos above), but then immediately suffered a setback this week when he suffered a mysterious "respiratory problem" and had to return in the first round at Ordina against Fabrice Santoro. (Sporting Life)
Ginepri's first-round opponent come Monday will be another American who hasn't lived up to his potential, Mardy Fish. Let's hope Robby will be OK in time to lose play that one.

Robby Ginepri: Game, Set and Blog?

Robby Ginepri was up a break in the third against Andy Murray yesterday in Cincinnati, but wasn't able to hold his lead. He's packed his bags so I'm wondering if this is the last blog entry we'll be seeing or if the ATP will give him another crack at it (Miss Waffle House didn't even get a second visit as of last night).

Also, I got an e-mail from a reader last time asking if I knew who the "smoking hot guy sitting in the Ginepri camp seats" was. I only saw the match highlights so (sadly) didn't get to see this specimen with my own eyes, but my guess was it might have been Robby's trainer Jamie. Anyone know for sure?

    Robby Ginepri's Back!

Robby Ginepri seems to be re-finding his form at the RCA Championships this week, just in time for the U.S. Open (I think it's the cute new haircut). The defending RCA champ advanced to the semifinals by crushing Paradorn Srichaphan of Thailand, 6-4, 6-1 in just 49 minutes. This is already Ginepri's best tournament all year. (Ticker)

    Reflecting: Robby Ginepri

Hunky Robby Ginepri shaved his beard and his court time losing to Tomas Berdych of Czech Republic in straight sets in the third round of the BNP Paribas ATP Tennis Masters Series in Paris. Although he picked things up toward the end of the season, Robby isn't going to be qualifying for the Masters Cup in Shanghai, so it looks like it's time to head back to Georgia and regroup. Looking forward to seeing Robby (and his hot trainer) in Australia. (AP)

    Robby Ginepri's Back!

Wow, what a sight for a sore cornea! A kind reader took these photos of Robby Ginepri on the practice court yesterday gearing up for this weekend's tournament in Indian Wells, Calif. After a disastrous 2007 season, the hunky American is off and running this year, having reached the semifinals of all three events he's entered, racking up an 8-3 win-loss record and wins over James Blake and Marcos Baghdatis. With his furry chest and that bubble butt, something tells me Robby'll do just fine playing out in Palm Springs, the land of bears and daddies. See the complete set here.

    Robby Ginepri: Ab Fab

With his ranking down in the 60s I'm not even sure how Robby Ginepri is getting into the main draw of these tournaments anymore, not that I'm complaining ... (See all Robby posts HERE.)

    Desert Storm

Outiside of the four Grand Slam events, the Pacific Life Open in Indian Wells, Calif., is one of the biggest tournaments in the game, with both men and women competing at the same time. This weekend saw the big guns of the men's game out in full force, and with the exception of Robby Ginepri's loss -- to the equally adorable Carlos Moya -- I was pretty happy with how things went:

King Roger is looking to regain form after a weak winter; he advanced in straight sets over Guillermo Garcia-Lopez
Robby Ginepri's year has started off well, but an unlucky draw led him to his downfall in the great Carlos Moya
Despite winning his first Grand Slam title earlier this year, Serb Novak Djokovic still cannot afford a shirt ...

A freshly shorn Tommy Haas was no match for Andy Roddick, who's season had been going so well up until now ...
    Cutest couple in tennis?
Other winning hunks included Mario Ancic, Tommy Robredo, Mikhail Youzhny, Richard Gasquet, David Nalbandian and Juan Carlos Ferrero.

    Afternoon Delight: Robby Ginepri

Here are some photos from when Robby Ginepri graced the cover of Atlanta Tennis. Now I see where the term Hotlanta comes from! (Thanks, Matt!)

    Model Player?

    (212) fave Robby Ginepri finally didn't lose in the 1st round this week -- and even took No. 5 seed Nikolay Davydenko to a third set, but is it too little too late for America's Next Top (Male) Model?

Robby Ginepri: Grin and Bear It

Robby Ginepri hasn't had a lot of luck winning two matches a row this year -- he lost to Rainer Schuettler yesterday in Los Angeles, 6-3, 3-6, 6-4. But even so, I still can't get enough of his scruffy cuteness.

Big Man on Campus: Robby Ginepri

Robby Ginepri beat Paul Goldstein in straight sets to set up a third-round rematch from last year against Tommy Haas. Sure looks like someone's been hitting the gym big-time.

    Sporting Wood: Robby Ginepri

Just because I post action photos of tennis hottie Robby Ginepri every other day doesn't mean I can't make him today's Sporting Wood, especially when I get sexy photos like these sent to me from a sweet reader who calls herself Boca Babe. Woof!
