Song of the Day: 'What's Behind the Mask?' by the Cramps

 

Although everyone I know and their brother wore Cramps T-shirts when I was a teen, I never really explored the band. (Sorry!) So it was fun to finally face the music, via this all-star Halloween cover of "What's Behind the Mask?" featuring Kathy Valentine (Go-Go's), John Doe (X) and Clem Burke (Blondie) to benefit Bowery Electric in NYC, where I saw Kathy's Bluebonnets a few years ago.

RIP: Lux Interior


Lux Interior, the singer, songwriter and founding member of the pioneering New York City psychobilly band the Cramps, died Wednesday in Glendale, Calif. He was 60. I first became aware of the Cramp back in the early '80s in this scene from the life-altering film "Urgh! A Music War." I don't think anyone who witnessed Lux's, um, relationship with a microphone could ever forget him ... (Read more HERE.)
