Riding With Billy

Of course I wish my brother Bill were still with us every second of every day. But it’s especially pronounced when something like this happens, walking down West 20th Street and seeing the exact bike model -- my very first 10-speed -- he helped me pick out when I was around 11 years old. I was torn between Huffy's snazzy Santa Fe (pictured) and the Sun Dance -- which was baby blue with very hip *denim* handlebar grips and an unironic rainbow on the sissy bar -- and Bill steered me to the more mature choice that he felt better suited our new (Arizona) desert surroundings. How this thing is still around and he’s not is one of life’s many mysteries. But sometimes a good cry is just what you need on a Sunday evening when you haven’t got your big brother to share a funny moment with anymore. xo
