Song of the Day: 'Gold' by John Stewart (Featuring Stevie Nicks)

(Photo from HERE.)

I've had "Daydream Believer" stuck in my head since I made it SOTD last Thursday. In researching the song, I discovered the deceptively simple hit was written for the Monkees by John Stewart, shortly before he left the Kingston Trio. Stewart, as you may know, is best known for his 1979 hit with Stevie Nicks, "Gold," which has supplanted "Daydream Believer" as my earworm of the week.

The song is from the album "Bombs Away Dream Babies," to which Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham both contributed.

Would have been curious to hear Kingston's take on it -- but later that year Stewart did release a more country version on his 1971 solo album, "The Lonesome Picker Rides Again."

The far better Stewart / Nicks song was on the same disk, but was "Midnight Wind". Even better was his song with the producer of the album, Lindsey Buckingham with "Runaway Fool for Love"
