Song of the Day: 'Liar, Liar' by Debbie Harry and the Castaways

Among the "should've been hits" in Debbie Harry's solo repertoire, her cover of "Liar Liar" that was on the "Married to the Mob" soundtrack ranks high. (And who remembers her "Summertime Blues?)

So you can imagine my utter delight when someone uploaded this extremely rare clip of her doing a soundcheck of the old Castaways hit at the Borderline in London back in 1989, ahead of a solo performance I've mentioned before. Deb looks and sounds drop-dead gorgeous. And while I saw her on this same tour at After the Gold Rush in Tempe, Ariz., I can't remember her doing the other song featured here, "Close Your Eyes," a deft "Def, Dumb and Blonde" outtake I always wish had made it to vinyl somewhere. Enjoy!

And is that "Blitzkrieg Bop" at the beginning?

This version peaked at No. 12 in the U.S.

P.S.

Hardcore fans will find it difficult not to DIE watching this B-roll footage of Deb and Chris just being Deb and Chris on the streets of London.
