Song of the Day: ‘The End of the World' by Skeeter Davis

My friend Christopher texted me over the weekend to tell me he'd forgotten that Nina Gordon (of Veruca Salt fame) had released a solo album in 2000 that "was actually a Bangles album in 1989!" Naturally I was intrigued -- to be honest, I don't even know anything beyond "Seether" but anything even Bangles-adjacent becomes a priority in my book -- no more so than hearing her cover of this classic Skeeter Davis hit, one of the most perfect songs of all time.

Gordon's album is great. The follow-up had two good songs on it. In between, she recorded and abandoned another disk I'd love to hear it, but I don't think it will ever see the light of day. And you left out the Carpenter's version of this song.

I saw Nina perform above a Dunn Brothers years ago. She played acoustically after this album came out. It was a great show.
