Song of the Day: 'Billy Don't Be a Hero' by Paper Lace / Bo Donaldson and the Heywoods

This is a funny one. When this song appeared on the soundtrack to "The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert," I recall singing along fondly remembering this mega hit from my childhood. But as I go to post this, I'm just now realizing it was actually the cover by Bo Donaldson and the Heywoods that had the No. 1 hit here -- so they're both ingrained in my mind but from entirely different eras! Interestingly, Bo Donaldson's other big hit -- "Who Do You Think You Are" -- is a song I learned as a cover by Saint Etienne, only it turns out Bo's version was a cover of a Jigsaw song that was actually first recorded by Candlewick Green, then recorded by the writers (Jigsaw) before being a hit for Bo! (Huh?)

Well this one was a real throwback! I haven't thought of it in probably decades but I remember it being EVERYWHERE in its time. The video of Paper Lace is the uniforms is a hoot.
