Boy Culture's updated list of living stars 80s and over is a must-read for any fan of celebrity. The octogenarian threshold is of particular note to me as I just helped my mom celebrate her 74th birthday, and apropos of very little my stepfather announced to me that he had figured out -- based on family history and who-knows-what-else -- that Molly would live to be 85. (Um, OK.) I was hoping for forever, but if she can make Matt's list, I wouldn't complain!

74 the hard way: Mom's back surgery has been complicated with kidney stones and basal skin carcinoma, but she's determined to go to Ireland with my brother and me as soon as she's able to stand straight :-)
