Out Magazine Names President Barack Obama 'Ally of the Year'

Bravo to Out 100 for naming President Barack Obama Ally of the Year. I wrote about this in my book, and I'll say it again: I don't think people realize just how monumental his support for LGBT people has been -- just by treating us as equals -- and what a profound effect it has had on this country and our everyday lives. Bravo. Read HERE.

Barack Obama photographed by Ryan Pfluger for Out Magazine -- the first U.S. president to be photographed for the cover of an LGBT publication. In the article, he tells Out:
“To Malia and Sasha and their friends, discrimination in any form against anyone doesn’t make sense. It doesn’t dawn on them that friends who are gay or friends’ parents who are same-sex couples should be treated differently than anyone else. That’s powerful."

UPDATE: And speaking of which, today President Obama officially endorsed proposed legislation known as the Equality Act, which would amend the Civil Rights Act of 1964 to make it illegal to discriminate on the basis of sexual orientation and gender identity. The announcement comes one week after the Houston Equal Rights Ordinance (HERO) was defeated by a punishing margin. Read HERE.
