Thrilled to see that "The McCarthys" -- the sitcom I've mentioned before starring Tyler Ritter as a gay man in Boston who tries to put some space between him and his sports-crazed family -- has been picked up by CBS for the fall. Its impressive pedigree -- created by a real gay Bostonian, Brian Gallivan -- of "Happy Endings" fame -- and costarring a former New Kid on the Block (Joey McIntyre) and Laurie Metcalf as the mom -- means that unlike "The New Normal" and a few other gay shows on TV in recent years, this one I will actually check out.
