Song of the Day: 'Killing Me Softly' by Roberta Flack

I'm such a control freak and so impatient that I almost never watch anything on "live" television anymore. (A big thank-you to Ben Franklin for the DVR!) So it sort of seemed like fate intervened when I went to check out Lena Dunham on "Saturday Night Live" once it ended and got sucked into an episode of the television adaptation of "About a Boy." I haven't read the Nick Hornby novel, but because my little sister has always sworn that Hugh Grant (in the film) reminded her so much of me -- "He's exactly like you!" -- I decided to finally have a look (albeit once removed) at the latest iteration of Will Freeman. The television show didn't do much for me -- Grant replacement David Walton is nice to look at, but not much else excited me -- but then what should appear on the boob tube last night when I finally got Michael to take a break from his "Long Island Medium" marathon? The 2002 film! It wasn't nearly as good as I had heard it was -- the screenplay was nominated for an Academy Award, and Grant and Toni Collette were both nomianted for Golden Globe awards -- and I was even more confused why my sister thought Hugh Grant's character was "just like" me. (Is that her way of saying she thinks I'm horribly selfish, or does she secretly think I have no job or commitments in my life?!) Confusion aside, it did inspire to post this classic Roberta Flack song, which "About a Boy" fans will remember well.
