Chris Evert 'Extremely Disappointed' in Jimmy Connors Over Abortion Claim

Well, now we know the answer to this question: Chris Evert did NOT know Jimmy Connors was going to write about the abortion she had while they were a couple, a decision he claims she made without his input. Chrissie had this to say about the reveleation from Jimmy's upcoming memoir, "The Outisider":
“In his book, Jimmy Connors has written about a time in our relationship that was very personal and emotionally painful,” she said in a statement obtained by RadarOnline.com. “I am extremely disappointed that he used the book to misrepresent a private matter that took place 40 years ago and made it public without my knowledge. I hope that everyone can understand that I have no further comment.”
I can't say that I'm surprised. Connors was an ass then, and he's (apparently) still one now.

I read your post about Jimmy Connors and Chris Evert with interest. Don't know if you're old enough to remember the newspaper articles of the time (I'm guessing no, but you often surprise me). Anyway, Connors made it clear that he expected Evert to put her career on the back burner (if not end it outright) after they got married. I don't think his attitude bothered her that much when getting married was something they planned to do off in the distant future, but when it became something that could happen right away it's kind of obvious why she balked. I'm betting that Connors made it clear he expected her to quit tennis, acted as if he would be doing her a big favor by marrying her, expressed contempt for the women's tour -- and then wondered why she had other ideas.

Another article I read way back when ( a few years after Connors and Evert broke up) said that Evert hadn't been popular on the women's tour when she first joined it, but that Billie Jean King had befriended her, they had talked a lot, and their discussions had led to Evert's decision to break her engagement to Connors. (I'm guessing now that she confided in King and King advised her to get an abortion.)
