Of Paramount Importance

The Paramount -- Ian Schrager's famed hotel where guests of "Saturday Night Live" routinely stayed when I was a kid, where guys like Michael Bergin got jobs on the way to becoming famous, and where my old boyfriend and I would always crash when we were visiting the city from Washington -- is about to reopen after a major overhaul. Howard Johnson's is no longer on the corner, but the redesigned lobby and new restaurant both look fun, even if the face-lift is unlikely to make the rooms any bigger than suburban foyers. Oh the memories! My hubby and I stayed there for 2 weeks! in early 90s, we had a Mona Lisa room. So very tiny you had to squeeze by everything and eachother, but, oddly and with relief, the bathroom was larger than the bedroom.
