The Advocate Turns 45

The Advocate is turning 45 this fall and while it's not quite what it used to be, like me, it's still kicking. The magazine began publishing in Los Angeles in September 1967, "partly a response to police raids on gay bars such as the Black Cat" and has chronicled every newsworthy event in the quest for equality. Check out the fun interactive timeline HERE, (Who else remembers the first gay sitcom character? I'll give you a hint -- it wasn't Billy Crystal on "Soap"!)
