Quote of the Day

I actually thought Jon Stewart was a little too tolerant of the intolerance on this one -- yes these mayors were a little out of line, but would he have minded if mayors in 1966 had said something like that if businessmen were bragging about not liking blacks marrying whites? -- but this quote does put things into perspective rather well.

Yet another reason why I absolutely *love* The Daily Show. It's perhaps the most realistic news source out there today =) Way to put it in perspective!!

I am quite the aficionado of _The Daily Show_ myself, but I thought that Jon Stewart could have mentioned the extensive monetary contributions made by Chick-fil-A to anti-LGBTQ organizations, since these contributions have a long-term impact above and beyond the statement that CEO Dan Cathy made in his recent interview. LGBTQ people and their allies are disheartened not only because so many people have chosen to eat a fast-food sandwich in defense of Dan Cathy's right to free speech and freedom of religion, but because the influx of customers on August 1st means that Chick-fil-A will have that much more money to contribute to anti-LGBTQ causes. But since corporations are people and money is speech, as the Supreme Court and our "friend" Mitt Romney have already informed us, then I guess that it all boils down to a First Amendment issue after all.
