Don't Go in the Water Bowl

Saw this on Facebook and had to share. I was SUCH a "Jaws" nut when I was a kid -- and I was a very young kid back in 1975. Remember having the book and the poster (that my second-grade teacher, Miss Blackburn, gave me) and seeing the film in the theater when I was 8. (I think my crazy step aunt Linda took us.) Also recall doing a book report Carl Gottlieb's "Jaws Log" for Miss Jackson's third-grade -- a book I still have today!

Kenneth, I know you're a year or two behind me, but I know what you're talking about. I drew the poster, and logo. I read the books (Jaws 1 & 2). I had the Mad Magazine with Alfred E. Newman swimming and the shark with his tongue out. I even gave an oral report in Junior High on the Jaws book.

My mom and dad took my brother an I (7 and 9 years old at the time) to the biggest screen in town to see it. They probably couldn't afford the movie AND a sitter. Anyway, My mom (27 or so at the time) told me that if I got scared, these were just actors and makeup, and they all went out for pizza after shooting their scenes. I never had trouble separating fiction from reality after that.

I was a bit older than you (14) but also could not get enough of this film. I still have The Jaws Log too! Here's to being obsessed.

When I found out the SAME guy made this movie and another movie I was even more obsessed with "close encounters" (I'd spend all day listening to the radio thinking they would play the movie theme), it was all over for me - at age 11.
