Sad to read about the death of Sally Ride, the first American woman in space, of pancreatic cancer at 61. As a lover of biographies, the obituaries are frequently my favorite section of the paper -- and Ride's is no different. I've learned that she was a top-ranked junior tennis player, whom Billie Jean King encouraged to drop out of Stanford and turn pro. I also learned she is survived by her partner of 27 years, Tam O’Shaughnessy. Sixty-one is way too young to die, but Sally's legacy will live on forever. May she rest in peace.
