Song of the Day: 'Chain Reaction' by Diana Ross

The death of Donna Summer has really put me on notice to appreciate my divas while they're still around to adore. Debbie Harry -- who is three years older than Donna -- gets plenty of lovin' around my house. But I've been paying a little special attention to a few other women of a certain age, including Barbra, Carly, Aretha, Kim Carnes and Diana, whose "Chain Reaction" should have been one of the biggest singles of her career. Miss Ross + Bee Gees = Perfection. It stalled at No. 66 on the Billboard 100, but skyrocketed to No. 1 in the U.K. (Brits have great taste in some things.) If you don't know it, here you go. And if you do, enjoy!

LOVE this song and the video is really great. The only video of her's that I love even more is her rendition of I WILL SURVIVE while surrounded by an army of drag queens (including RuPaul). What makes I WILL SURVIVE the better video? Ross dives into the crowd and body surfs at 4:44. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UaYHRx9-v2M&feature=player_embedded

I'm old enough to remember when this video came out and it was a major obsession of mine. Such a great song, such a great show within a show. Like you, I'm amazed this was not a bigger song in the U.S.
