Forgive me for being horribly late to yet another party, but I just heard about Norwegian singer Annie (born Anne Lilia Berge-Strand) from a reader, who noticed a song of hers playing in a video for the Hong Kong Lesbian and Gay Film Festival late last year. The tune, "Heaven and Hell," in incredibly catchy -- Allmusic says Annie is "as pop as early Madonna or late Kylie Minogue, yet her hipster credibility puts her just as close to Saint Etienne or Miss Kittin" -- aka just the ingredients you'd use to make a dream artist for me in a studio laboratory -- but it's her breakthrough single (from 1999, I told you I'm so on it!), "The Greatest Hit," that features a hefty sample of Madonna's "Everybody" that has me even more in love. P.S. Now that I'm catching up on the '90s, look out the oughts!!!!

Glad you've finally seen the Annie light.
I suggest checking out her song "Anthonio." I absolutely adore it.
