Residents of Troy, Michigan, are letting Mayor Janice Daniels know what they think of her homophobic Facebook status update. As a Michigan native and a resident of that state where "queers can get married," I want her to know what I think, too.
Sources tell me there's a boycott going on there right now called "De-Occupy Somerset (Mall)," encouraging people not to spend any Christmas money in Troy until Daniels resigns. (Lest you think she's remorseful at all, take a look at THIS. She's the "victim," of course, over "one word.") As a former resident of the Oakland County -- who was born in Beaumont Hospital, one of Troy/Royal Oak's largest employers -- might I also suggest also boycotting my childhood mall, Oakland Mall, which is also in Troy, until this hateful woman stops embarrassing her residents and her state and goes away?
If you'd like to contact her office or the City Council -- I just sent her an e-mail asking her to stop bringing shame to all Michiganders and resign immediately, then I CC'd all of the council members -- here is the contact information:

Mike, it's one thing for a person or group to identify themselves as "queer" or "faggot", it's another to have a someone call a person a group any word or name to disparage or hurt them. What's bothers me more is her lack of economy... doesn't she know what a TOTE is? Seriously; "carrying bag"?
@Swine: It's a short-term tactic to get businesses to force her to resign. There is safety and power in numbers -- especially when there's a dollar sign in front of them!

If we don't want "them" to use the word we shouldn't use it ourselves. Frankly I don't like the word and I don't identify with it.
Look up "queer" on dictionary.com - if any of the meanings are offensive to you you should avoid the word (e.g. 4. mentally unbalanced or deranged).
