Did 'Hoover' Suck the Gay Out or Not?

We've been reassured by Dustin Lance Black (the screenwriter) and Armie Hammer (the costar) that Clint Eastwood's J. Edgar Hoover movie hasn't been stripped of its gay, but this chat with Dirty Harry and Leonardo DiCaprio (who plays Hoover) in the new GQ still gives me pause for concern:

The two dance around the issue of Hoover’s sexuality.

“If I were a betting man, I actually don’t know what I would bet [regarding his sexuality],” says DiCaprio.

“It’s gonna be for the audience to interpret,” Eastwood adds. “It’s not a movie about two gay guys. It’s a movie about how this guy manipulated everybody around him and managed to stay on through nine presidents. I mean, I don’t give a crap if he was gay or not.” (Via NYP)

I'm still going to watch it... If someone made a movie about my life I wouldn't expect it to be focused on only one aspect of my life. And even if it was, my career has been far more entertaining than my personal life. If you want a movie specifically about Hoover's sex life, rent a porn...
