After burying the same-sex marriage vote on its Saturday cover, I noticed The New York Post put the governor at the gay pride parade out front today -- in what can only been seen as an attempt to "shame" the Democrat for its right-leaning readers. ("Pride," "glory" and "hero" take on a whole new meaning when you're pro-gay, of course.) Think I'm being cynical? Read on:
I find it's best not to blog about work situations, but then sure enough something happened this morning that proved how right I was. A 60-something guy on our floor who is friendly with people on my desk came by and mentioned that The Post had quietly raised its price to 75 cents -- which is remarkable considering for years it was 25 cents to NYDN's 50 cents -- and then he said he was debating if it was worth the money seeing as they had "Governor Cuomo on the cover at the gay pride parade saying, 'Look at me! I did this!!'" This was obviously meant as a dig, and this man clearly expected everyone to agree with him, or at least laugh. No one did. While most people completely ignored him, one guy actually said (to the "I did this" comment), "Yeah, what he did was great!" The older guy looked stunned -- then turned and returned to his desk on the other side of the floor -- and I was feeling pretty good about my colleagues.
This is gonna be a good week.
