Erik Fellows: 'Can You Hear Me Now?'

No sooner did I read that Paul Marcarelli -- aka The Verizon Guy -- was no longer the corporate pitchman did I learn about Verizon's new model, Erik Fellows. (Talk about an upgrade!) The handsome Marylander is a soap star ("Days of Our Lives") and has appeared in music videos with Jennifer Lopez and Dido, where he rarely had his shirt on. Needless to say, his catchphrase will need to be updated. "Can you see me now?" might work, you know, to promote the cellphone behemoth's video and photo capabilities. Apparently the new Verizon Guy is a straight-shooter You might not wanna bother watching one of his recent ads -- he's got his shirt on the whole time:

It's a shame that you essentially "downgrade" Mr. Marcarelli with your comment while simultaneously fanning the flames of body fascism so prevalent in our gay culture. Who knows why Verizon decided to take their marketing in a different direction, but let's not assume it's because Marcarelli wasn't "hot" enough to sell phone service, so unattractive that he needed to be tossed aside for a sleeker model.

Gotta agree with Gary here. I do enjoy your blog, but you definitely tend to belittle guys who don't fit the mold of what, unfortunately, most consider the "gay ideal." To each his or her own, I suppose.

I didn't say Verizon swapped out the guys over looks. I just said I -- aka KENNETH IN THE (212) -- thinks the new guy is hotter, hence calling him an "upgrade."

Me thinks somebody (or two) is reading into things a bit too much and might wanna talk to someone about it.
