After testing the water briefly yesterday, my new look made its grand debut earlier today at Easter dinner on Long Island with Michael's family. (My 'stache was even spotted by an alert Twitter pal at Penn Station!) After dipping my toe into the water yesterday with a No. 1 clipper job on everything but my lip, I completely shaved the rest of my face this morning -- revealing my chin for the first time in over a decade. (Michael was totally egging me on -- he's a child of the '70s and likes the idea of dating Blogger P.I. -- saying that if I was gonna do it, go all the way!) Unlike when women dye their hair blond, I'd been warned by a lip-hair-friendly friend on the West Coast that the reaction to my new look could be severe -- with a small number of people REALLY liking it, but far more being hostile toward someone for even having a mustache -- but so far it's been pretty mellow. The reaction on Facebook -- where I asked friends and readers to vote on the Is It More Porn Star/Red Neck/Molester question -- has been more positive than negative, with the best appraisal being that I look like "kinda look like I work in a toll booth." (From what I'm hearing, perhaps "cop" should have been one of the choices -- as Jason Giambi explains, below.) Tomorrow is the first day at work -- this should be interesting!

I like it - think of it as a new pair of shoes - wear it for a while - then change it - change is good - keeps us vital.......
You are such a beautiful person, inside and out. I prefer you without your mustache, but at the end of the day it is what you like ... and what your bf likes, too.
You were a cutie when you were a twinkie in the 80s, you are a hot man now.
More importantly, you are a GREAT guy and that is all that matters, no?
Hugs,
FunMe
What a cool surprise! I started growing mine a couple of weeks ago (plus a small flavor-saver on my chin), and the reaction has been fairly positive. (Did we talk about this at Blowoff? I can't recall.)
No, but remember I had a full beard/stache. Mine was a subtraction, not an addition!
As for Blowoff, the hottest guy there may have been my inspiration, though!
OMG! I realize it's not about ME, but... When we recently met for coffee with Dan, I was totally sporting a 'stache and you didn't even notice :-( I actually just shaved it off yesterday as it was becoming unruly. But I totes like yours... KEEP IT!
@Frank: I actually did notice, but wasn't sure what the protocol was. While I LOVE social-networking about my 'stache -- isn't that the ONLY reason to do ANYTHING anymore? -- I cringe talking about it in person and thought maybe you felt the same way!
Go for the Porn'stache. You are young enough so that you weren't able to participate in it the first time around. This makes you a prime candidate for its revival.
