The Sum Also Rises

Had my first dim sum "experience" over the weekend -- I know, I don't get out much -- when Michael got the idea for us to replace a traditional Sunday brunch planned with his nephew Justin and his girlfriend, Dee, with a trip to Chinatown. The kids -- along with cousins Melinda and Bobby and pal Lorenzo -- took us to Jin Fong down on Elizabeth Street, where we were equally stunned by the enormity of the space (I was half-expecting the Rev. Sun Myung Moon to come out and try to marry all of us) and the parade of lady boys (apparently there's even room for a little Bangkok in that huge dining room). The food was good even if I wasn't sure what most of it was (my head was spinning from all those carts rolling around and old ladies screaming at us and writing on our BINGO card on the table). But when Dee informed me that she had taken the whole gang for Shamrock shakes recently on my recommendation and that there was a McDonald's around the corner, my meal was suddenly complete!

My new band, The Shamrockers

lol- having dim sum on a weekend is an adventure in itself. Yes, those old ladies with their steam carts are definitely loud and insistent you eat EVERYTHING.. especially when they see that you're not Asian.

Sounds (and looks) like you all had fun though! Yes, you don't want to know what you just ate. I made the mistake of telling an ex when we were dating he was digesting cow intestine lining... that didn't go over so well.
