The Late Shift

I may have been naive to think Jay Leno gave up "The Tonight Show" of his own volition -- after seeing that America greatly preferred his brand of MOR comedy over David Letterman for nearly 20 years, how could I ever believe NBC would be stupid enough to put all their eggs in one basket to keep the even-quirkier Conan O'Brien? But I'm sure I'm right when I say O'Brien's statement refusing to do the show at 12:05 a.m. is thoughtful, humble, dignified and the right thing do. As I've mentioned, I've never watched his show. My brothers were always fans of his, but I was kind of over late-night talk by the time he really caught on. I'm a fan (of sorts) now. Read the statement HERE.
