Same Thing in Reverse

Best Buy was too incompetent to just fix the defective optical drive on my new laptop, so after going around and around for three weeks (NIGHTMARE!) I finally wound up with a new machine yesterday. The reason I was so opposed to the replacement was because I'd spent literally a dozen hours ripping my CD collection into the new machine and was completely dreading doing it again. My pal Mark heard about my dilemma and sent me the link to Touch Copy, a software program that allows you to copy your iPod to iTunes -- neatly and with all of the artwork! (I'd never heard of such a thing.) I downloaded it (it costs $24.99) and had my entire iTunes Library as good as new in no time. While I'm guessing most people use this when their hard drive dies and their iPod becomes the only place they have their music stored, I can't even explain relieved I am to have solved my own problem, which has as much to do with obsessive-compulsive behavior as it does with tech support.

There's another software application called "Senuti" that does the same thing. It's great! Not sure of the price nor if it's available for the PC. But feel free to pass along the info to your readers...

I needed to do this this past summer - except all of my music was on my ZUNE. Didn't need to buy anything - once I had the Zune software downloaded on my new computer I was able to copy all of my music from the new onto the new computer no fuss no muss. No jumping through hoops. Absolutely no problem.

I have used Senuti multiple times -- it's a lifesaver, and you can download the program for free online!

There is this great thing called Mac that will automatically back up your files to the internet or an external HD and doesn't require a trip to Best Buy :)

Ok, now, as a computer technician, I'm going to tell you what I tell all of the students that come in to my shop when they have problems with their hard drives...backup your data! 3 places. The actual computer, an external hard drive and the most important files, dvd. I know your DVD drive was gone, but external hard drives are very cheap and it's just a matter of dragging and dropping folders and you've got a complete backup, then you can take it to another machine and burn to dvd. :) Ok, 'nuff said. Enjoy the new machine!!!
