Jaegermeister

Kudos to The Times for recognizing the 25th anniversary of the longest point -- and I'd say match -- in the history of tennis. What, you don't remember the 29-minute, 643-shot rally between Vicki Nelson (No. 93) and Jean Hepner (No. 172) at Virginia Slims-sponsored Ginny (satellite) tournament in Richmond, Va.? Nelson's straight-sets win only took six hours and 31 minutes to complete (straight sets!!!). Afterward Nelson apologized to the linesmen, although it doesn't say if she offered her condolences to the fans. While I frequently lament the state of women's tennis today, this moment from 1984 is part of the past that you won't hear me longing for much. Read all the embarrassing details HERE.
