RIP

Senator Ted Kennedy died late Tuesday night at the age of 77. His death was announced Wednesday morning in a statement by the Kennedy family:

“Edward M. Kennedy -- the husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle we loved so deeply -- died late Tuesday night at home in Hyannis Port,” the statement said. “We’ve lost the irreplaceable center of our family and joyous light in our lives, but the inspiration of his faith, optimism, and perseverance will live on in our hearts forever.”

The sadness is mitigated slightly by the fact that he lived long enough to finally stop being a punchline and be recognized as the gifted lawmaker and humanitarian that he truly was.

i agree with both depeche mode and ted kennedy -- sometimes, all things considered, there is far more in the larger picture than the trite, shallowness that has become the black hole of the technologically displaced.

now, i'd really love to see the moderns again.
