My recent post about my youthful dream of working as an editor at Interview led me to subscribing for the first time in a decade. My first post-Ingrid Sischy issue just arrived today and while I haven't had a chance to look at it thoroughly, I was quickly reminded of what I loved about it when I got to the page featuring Max Steele, a 24-year-old "go-go dancer, writer, performance artist, and singer" in New York City (video HERE). It was in the pages of the Warhol mag that this gay boy in Mesa, Arizona, learned about all of Manhattan and Hollywood's latest up-and-coming stars and wannabes, however big or small -- and there was never a shortage of pretty boys. I'll never forget getting an issue in early '86 that featured a young actor named Timothy Gibbs.
In the piece I found out he was playing Mary Tyler Moore and Ted Danson's son in the film "Something in Common" (which wound up being released as "Just Between Friends") so I talked my friends into going to see it (repeatedly) at the new AMC theater on Longmore just to see the hunky "it" boy's shirtless car-washing scene over and over again. (Sadly, a dozen moves later and I no longer have that issue anymore.) A little research on the Web, though, and I've come to discover that Gibbs went on to star on "Another World" and "One Life to Live," appeared in an episode of "Sex and the City" and acting as a model for the video game character Max Payne in the sequel "Max Payne 2: The Fall of Max Payne," as well as opening Jefferson Rilke Hopper Davis, a construction company in New York City (with one of the most annoying Web sites I've ever seen!). Perhaps there's a 24-year-old gay boy somewhere out there reading up on Max Steele in Interview magazine right now. I'll bet Max would have had a better chance of being remembered 20-some years from now if he'd posed with his shirt off, though ...

Couldn't locate the 1986 shot, but Gibbs grew up to be a fine man, too ...UPDATE: A huge thank-you to my friend Matt for surprising me with this gift in the mail -- the March 1986 Interview magazine featuring sexy Timothy. I've always wondered where my white-boxer-shorts fixation came from and now I know ...

funny i remember timothy gibbs too, but i think the film with MTM and ted danson was called "just between friends" where ted danson dies, and MTM becomes friends with ted's mistress. regardless, if it is the same film, mr. gibbs was hot back then and is still hot now. :)

Timothy Gibbs also was in some of the later "Little House on the Prairie" episodes as an orphan, later to be a co-star on "Father Murphy"!!!!! He was one of first T.V. crushes
