RIP: Robert Hazard

Just wanted to acknowledge the passing of Robert Hazard, who died Tuesday at 59. Writing "Girls Just Want to Have Fun" probably paid his bills, but it was his "Escalator of Life" by which I will always remember him. It was the quintessential early '80s new wave song and video, and the mere mention of his name makes me launch into its infectious chorus ("We're riding on the escalator of life/We're shopping in the human mall.") My condolences to his family and friends. Perhaps there's a little solace in knowing he made a lot of strangers happy with his music -- this stranger, at least. (AP)
