Page 1 Consider (08/14)

  • Just Asking: Is actor Jason O'Mara, seen here on location in NYC for "Life on Mars," really hot? I've never heard of him before, but based on this wire photo -- and the fact that he's from Dublin -- I'm thinking the answer is yes. (RedOrbit)

  • Family Row: A federal appeals court has reversed a ruling that awarded John Steinbeck's son and granddaughter publishing rights to 10 of the author's early works, including "The Grapes of Wrath." The appeals court said Wednesday that a judge made a mistake when he ruled the works belonged to the son, Thomas Steinbeck, and granddaughter Blake Smyle. (AP)

  • Mr. Polis Goes to Washington: Jared Polis, a 33-year-old openly gay entrepreneur from Boulder, beat two opponents on Tuesday night to win the Democratic primary to fill Rep. Mark Udall’s seat in Congress. Udall, a Democrat, is running for the Senate, and if Polis is elected to replace him in November -- which he is heavily favored to do -- he would become the third openly gay or lesbian member of Congress. "I think this sends a signal to young gays and lesbians across the country that they can consider a career in public service and they shouldn’t be scared away from that merely because of their sexual orientation," said Polis, who introduced his partner, Marlon Reis, during a raucous victory party on Tuesday night. • Can I Get a Script? Cindy McCain -- so unused to touching common people -- injured herself shaking hands yesterday during a campaign stop in Michigan. She ended up getting treated at my birthplace, William Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak. I sure hope she doesn't come out gay ...

  • Pin Me: French Olympic wrestlers Christophe Guenot and his brother Steeve of France are two hot medal winners. (OhLaLaMag)

  • Cho Time: Just one more week until Margaret Cho's new "reality sitcom" debuts on VH1. (Thanks a lot for the premiere party invite, Marge!) (Official Site)

  • Julia & Julia: Famed chef Julia Child shared a secret with Supreme Court Justice Arthur Goldberg and Chicago White Sox catcher Moe Berg at a time when the Nazis threatened the world. They served in an international spy ring managed by the Office of Strategic Services, an early version of the CIA created in World War II by President Franklin Roosevelt. Now there's a recipe for a good movie. (AP)

  • Music in Bloom: The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is going on the road to New York -- the city that spawned hip-hop and gave Bob Dylan, Blondie and the Ramones their start. On a blocked-off street in SoHo on Wednesday, Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg stood with Billy Joel, Clive Davis and officials from the hall, to announce that the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum, which opened its flagship building in Cleveland in 1995, would open a New York annex in November. Jason O'Mara was the one bright light on the "In Justice" series (with Kyle MacLachlan) and had a recurring role on "Men in Trees". imdb.com has credits for "The Closer", "Grey's Anatomy" and "Criminal Minds" (among other US productions) so he hasn't been hiding out in Ireland.

I'm not anxiously awaiting Life on Mars - the UK version did nothing for me....
