No Spoiler Alert Required

Wilson Cruz has worked steadily for the past decade-plus, but he'll always be Ricky on "My So-Called Life" to me; Singer Ari Gold
With singer Matthew Duffy and author Tom Dolby
"Project Runway" winner Christian Siriano; with Andy Towle of Towleroad.com fame
Last night was a situation that I thought only Laverne and Shirley could have gotten themselves into. The good people over at Logo Television asked me if I would like to "cover" the gay television network's inaugural New/Now/Next Awards over at MTV headquarters at 1515 Broadway. I thought it sounded fun and proceeded to take the night off from my real job and invite my pal Christopher along as my "plus one." When we got there, we were greeted by a cute young guy who said he loved my blog (liking this). Got fitted for our VIP stickers (liking this more) and upstairs we went. We waited with a few other "press" people for awhile, but as the evening went on it seemed that I'd actually been invited to cover the red carpet -- something I have never done before (I didn't even have a pen, let alone a tape recorder!), nor have I ever set out to do. (I'm more the go-to-the-event-and-then-write-about-the-whole-experience -afterward type, guys.) Apparently the show was being filmed in the tiny "TRL" studios, so not even all the nominees could sit in there at once, let alone the "press." So as I tried to make the best of the situation -- attempting to channel my inner-Joan Rivers -- we ended up meeting a hilarious photog from HX ("I wonder if the first Academy Awards was this unorganized?") and a freelancer working for In Touch Weekly (who seemed to be the only mainstream press -- using that term very loosely). As we were waiting for some of the people we'd heard of to make their entrance -- Cheyenne Jackson, Brad Rowe, Cyndi Lauper -- we patiently watched a parade of lovely people we had never seen before in our lives go by. (In Touch girl assured us she was good at picking out "really obscure" types, but alas she was even more stumped than I was unless they were on "Project Runway" at one time or another, a show I've never seen.) In the end, no Cheyenne, no Brad and no Cyndi. I did, however, have a great time hanging out with Christopher and we did get a few pictures of some quasi-familiar faces above, and even ran into a few old pals. Since we (apparently) weren't invited to the actual awards event I can't tell you who won. But you can tune into Logo on June 7 at 9 p.m. E.T. to find out for yourselves!
