Tender Vitters

Republican Sen. David Vitter of Louisiana -- an ardent advocate for a constitutional amendment banning same-sex marriage -- apologized Monday night for "a very serious sin in my past" after his telephone number appeared among those associated with an escort service operated by the so-called "D.C. Madam."

"This was a very serious sin in my past for which I am, of course, completely responsible," Vitter said in a statement. "Several years ago, I asked for and received forgiveness from God and my wife in confession and marriage counseling. Out of respect for my family, I will keep my discussion of the matter there -- with God and them. But I certainly offer my deep and sincere apologies to all I have disappointed and let down in any way."

Maybe he was on to something with that amendment: clearly opposite-sex marriage doesn't protect its sanctity by itself. And I wonder if I f**ked a hooker once in awhile if I would have a closer relationship with God 'cause I just don't seem to be getting it now. (WP)

Just one more reason why I left my happy home, which is now so terribly and totally effed up.

The politicians were cheap and grasping for the few dollars that were left on the ground.

My heart is broken, my heart is broken...

Did you see that they have his wife on tape saying "If my husband ever cheated on me i would leave him and also pull a Loraina Bobbitt"?

I have found that people's relationship to god and the sins they commit are inversely proportional to the number of times the sin is condemned in the bible.

Dude needs to RESIGN!

Per TP:
"Vitter Flashback: Clinton should resign. Sen. David Vitter (R-LA) first got his start in Congress after replacing former Rep. Bob Livingston (R-LA), who “abruptly resigned after disclosures of numerous affairs” in 1998. At the time, Vitter argued that an extramarital affair was grounds for resignation:

“I think Livingston’s stepping down makes a very powerful argument that Clinton should resign as well and move beyond this mess,” he said. [Atlanta Journal and Constitution, 12/20/98]"

For god sakes, couldn't he have said, "I want you to listen to me. I'm going to say this again. I did not have sexual relations with that woman."

All would be forgiven.

>>All would be forgiven.<<

I'm guessing the GOP sarcasm with which this is supposedly to be dripping is lost in the blogosphere, but how much more wrong could you be? All was not forgiven and our country was dragged through years of unnecessary lawsuits and impeachment proceedings. For shame.
