Page 1 Consider (11/17)

  • Danny Boy: Last week I reported that "Real World: New Orleans" dreamboat Danny Roberts had called it quits with his longtime (military) beau, Paul. I'd read about it online on the Advocate.com but came across the hard copy at my vet's office yesterday (for $471.30 I decided it was OK to steal the magazine). I've updated the post to include this oh-so-necessary photograph of Danny today. He says that while he was selling real estate a couple years ago, many people were contacting him who weren't actually interested in buying a house. Imagine that. (kenneth in the 212)

  • Prisoner Cell Block H(omo): Ever since I posted about my friend's crush on hunky prisoner Shawn yesterday, the recommendations just keep pouring in. Here are some highlights: Mark: "this guy is kind of hot but doesn't get out for 20 years"; Seth: "this guy seems really angry - nice fish, though"; Jason: "this guy's hot too and may get out sooner than expected. i love how he starts his likes with "when i'm not in here . . . " (Meet-an-Inmate.com)

  • Tight Ass, Loose Lips: Say it isn't so: personal trainers gossip behind their clients' backs?! (NYT)

  • My Kind of Monkey Business: From male killer whales that ride the dorsal fin of another male to female bonobos that rub their genitals together, the animal kingdom -- unlike most of the world -- tolerates all kinds of lifestyles. A first-ever museum display, "Against Nature?," which opened last month at the University of Oslo's Natural History Museum in Norway, presents 51 species of animals exhibiting homosexuality. (LiveScience)

  • UnMentionables: One man's quest for the perfect pair of underwear. Boxers or briefs? No. Boxer-briefs? Try again. (NYT)

  • Shiny Happy People? The next time you are deciding between ice cream and cake, buying a car or taking a trip to Europe, accepting a new job or keeping your old one, you should remember two things: First, your decision is rooted in the desire to become happy -- or at least happier than you are now. Second, there's a good chance the decision you make will be wrong. (CNN)

  • Power Bloggers: When Bill Maher went on "Larry King Live" and alleged that Ken Mehlman was gay, it was too much detail for CNN, which edited the remarks out of later broadcasts and off the transcript on its Web site. But the remarks couldn't be edited out of cyberspace, where they remain available, along with virtually everything else these days. Maher's comments last week, and a series of recent coming-out announcements by Hollywood figures responding to persistent rumors, show just how much the Internet has changed the rumor mill, and consequently the process of "outing" celebrities. • Blog Central: Any hockey fans out there? If so, check out my pal Evan Grossman's new blog on NHL.com. He's even buddies with Islanders hottie Rick DiPietro. (NHL.com)

  • Here Comes the Bride: My favorite Korean tranny is getting hitched. Best wishes. (KoreanTimes)

  • One for the Gals: Logo channel has begun production on a new lesbian sitcom. "Exes and Ohs" follows the romantic entanglements of Jennifer (Michelle Paradise) and her gay pals in caffeinated Seattle. One of those friends is Crutch, a wannabe rock star played by gay actress Heather Matarazzo. The sitcom is based on the short film "The Ten Rules: A Lesbian Survival Guide" and will premiere in 2007. • Unhappy Ending: Sorry A-Rod: It's all over now baby blue. (NYT)

Okay. Danny Roberts used to be on a tired reality show, had a brief career as an "actor" (my dog has better range), now sells real estate and we care about his love life for what reason? He's important why? Sure I would do him, but why do we care about him now being single?

Danny had a profound impact on a generation of kids who grew up thinking the only gay people in the world were the Jack McFarland types. There's nothing wrong with being like Just Jack, but countless twentysomethings I've met in recent years have cited Danny as a role model -- and for letting them know that being gay didn't mean you had to be a hairdresser.
