Freedom Is Not Free

It's no secret that the U.S. government does not take care of its military personnel. And with the number of service men and women injured topping 18,000 in the Iraq war alone -- and more than 2,600 killed, many with families left behind -- they need all the help they can get. Many of the wounded are extremely young (the average age of a wounded service member is 18-24) and face an entire lifetime of “healing” and coping with disabilities. Here's a nice (and visually pleasing) way to give something back to our Americans in uniform -- you can order the 2007 America's Heroes Reconnaissance Marines Calendar. 100% of the proceeds go to wounded heroes and their families as directed by those who have been awarded the Purple Heart.
As the great Jerri Blank once asked, "Is freedom free?" Sadly, the answer is a resounding no.

Order the calendar here.

Yumbo! Thanks for sharing, Kenneth. My blog today was about the price of liberty. You and I must be on the same stream of consciousness.

Okay, don't get me wrong...I love this. I love the men, the abs, everything...but these guys are so NOT marines. When did you ever see a true active marine with long gelled bangs?
C'mon now.....

While I support the people in the military, the idea that "freedom isn't free" relates at all to the Iraq war makes my blood boil. Our military people are not in Iraq fighting for our freedom. They're fighting for oil, fighting for profits, advancing a brand of American colonialism and being exploited by the wealthy Western financiers and politicians who stand to reap all the profits.

John, that's a very good point. It's not military hair, is it??
