You may have heard about the vicious attack on two gay CBS newsmen in St. Maarten last week. It wasn't until I did a little deeper reading that I realized that one of the men, Dick Jefferson, is a old friend of mine. I met Dick at the Upper West Side gay oasis The Works the month I moved to New York in 1998. Dick was a veritable welcome wagon. Friendly, outgoing and always up for something, Dick showed me the ropes and took to me a number of memorable shows and places, including De La Guarda, "Rent" on Broadway, and Culture Club, Human League and Howard Jones at Radio City Music Hall (fourth row center, thank you very much).I haven't seen too much of Dick in recent years, but here's hoping for a speedy recovery and that justice is served to those behind this heinous attack.
