Remains of the Day (03/01)

C'est possible

Flu has virtually disappeared from the U.S. amid coronavirus pandemic

Although my friends and I spotted that (reshoot) wig on Andrew McCarthy the second he arrived at the prom, I have never understood people who think Andie should have wound up with Duckie, who was obviously wrong for her because he was either gay or someone to whom she was clearly not attracted in "that" way. Just because he was "nicer" doesn't mean she owed him anything or was required to relent just to please him, who let's not forget badgered her and treated her like dirt for dating guys she actually found hot -- remember how he acted in the club? -- and struck me as a future incel.

I see no hole in this idea

The decision comes as more cities and states require organizations to accept applications from LGBTQ couples or risk losing government contracts.

Song of the Day: 'Your Woman' by White Town

I think I always knew it existed, but I finally turned on MTV Classic and spent last night in ‘80s music video heaven. In addition to Echo and the Bunnymen, Bryan Ferry, the Clash, New Order, Depeche Mode et al., I also saw a few good ones from the '90s including today's SOTD, a single Damian remembers fondly but I had never heard before.

Jyoti Prakash Mishra, who essentially is White Town, had this to say about his gender-bending hit, on which he sings the refrain "I could never be your woman":
"When I wrote it, I was trying to write a pop song that had more than one perspective. Although it's written in the first person, the character behind that viewpoint isn't necessarily what the casual listener would expect."

Mishra says the themes of the song include: "Being a member of an orthodox Trotskyist / Marxist movement. Being a straight guy in love with a lesbian. Being a gay guy in love with a straight man. Being a straight girl in love with a lying, two-timing, fake-arse Marxist. The hypocrisy that results when love and lust get mixed up with highbrow ideals."
Whatever it is, it works. Enjoy!
