9021-Oh No!

Wow, this makes me sad. I remember going here in the early '90s with my friend Carolyn to return merchandise for cash that we had charged at Saks and I. Magnin -- aka how we ate in our early 20s in Los Angeles. I sometimes miss those days of living on 59-cent bean burritos at Taco Bell on Beverly Boulevard. The department store opened in 1952 but closed around 2006 to make way for luxury condos. The real estate bust prevented that from happening in 2008, but now some development called 9900 Wilshire is moving in. First Whitney dies at the Beverly Hilton and now this? Next thing you're going to tell me is that Trader Vic's is going to close, too.

UPDATE: I spoke too soon. Apparently the Trader Vic's in the Beverly Hilton was downsized to a lounge with little fanfare back in 2007. However, the drinks were the only reason to go, so I guess all is not lost.

Mmmmmm.....Kenneth's long, hairy legs.....mmmmmm.

The store demolition is a few blocks from the horrible Wilshire & Santa Monica intersection, traffic is going to be even worse there for the duration.

Can't tell if kidding.. but the original Trader Vic's at the Beverly Hilton closed in 2007. Now there is only a "Trader Vic's Lounge" which isn't the same.
