For the third time in less than two months, a climber scaled the front of the New York Times building in Midtown Manhattan. The police received a call at 1:23 a.m. on Wednesday alerting them that there was a person scaling the skyscraper, at 620 Eighth Avenue, between 40th and 41st streets. The Spidey wannabe, who was described by onlookers and "security" guards as a man in his 20s, hung a white banner with red fliers stuck to it that referenced Osama bin Laden. (Oh, great.) (City Room)
UPDATE: It turns out the climber is one David Malone, 29, of Connecticut, who dropped out of the University of Michigan to study al-Qaida. Fortunately he's for its (and bin Laden's) destruction, not promotion. Lucky guy is gonna get soooo many hits on his site, Bin Laden's Plan. Is scaling that building the only way to increase Web traffic these days? (Way to go, Renzo!)
