Song of the Day: 'I Never Loved a Man (The Way I Love You)' by Aretha Franklin

"Respect" was No. 1 on the charts the week I was born, but it was the title track from the album that made me a true believer. (Can you believe "Do Right Woman-Do Right Man" was a b-side?!!!) Tell me: What's YOUR favorite Aretha song?

I still love "Until You Come Back to Me" and "Day Dreaming", but I grew up listening to my older sister's LPs of her early music.

I saw Aretha with a 95% Black audience, in Oakland, CA when "Baby I Love You" had just come out, and she sang it with a church girl innocence on her face. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WZ6HOUGE-Ok Later that year, Never and Do Right came out ----- I used to play "Do Right" for piano playing guys, saying Aretha was my favorite pianist. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VhdgFfNsst0 Not to mention her playing on so many other songs https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_9-yfeA2JZs A few years later, I spotted her in the front cabin on American Airlines and tried to say hello -- I got the diva response, but I forgive her.
