Weekend Tennis Roundup
There was no stopping Felix Auger Aliassime, who took out a surging Holger Rune in Basel for his third title in as many weeks. And Daniil Medvedev rallied to defeat Denis Shapovalov in Vienna for just his second crown in 2022, a year that saw him simultaneously reach No. 1 on the computer while his career lost serious momentum. Hooray for Hollywood!
Song of the Day: 'When My Baby's Beside Me' by Big Star
Come to the Alex Theatre on Saturday Nov 5th -- to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the release of the classic album Big Star #1 Record, concert producers the Wild Honey Foundation and Big Star founder Jody Stephens will present a live performance of this legendary LP, performed in its entirety and in order by Jody Stephen’s all-star ensemble. I'll be playing harmonica with Lemon Twigs. It's going to Big Fun and for a very worthy cause.

Leslie Jordan Dead at 67
This one hurts.
TMZ reports:
Leslie Jordan, the beloved actor and comedian has died.
Law enforcement sources tell TMZ Jordan was driving in Hollywood Monday morning when it's suspected he suffered some sort of medical emergency and crashed his BMW into the side of a building.
Leslie was famous for his work on popular TV shows like "Will & Grace," "Hearts Afire," "The Cool Kids," "Call Me Kat" and "American Horror Story."
LJ became a social media sensation during the pandemic, with his silly video posts helping him skyrocket from about 80,000 Instagram followers to a whopping 5.8 million. He told us on "TMZ Live" his secret was just being himself -- a silly, funny, goofy, happy-go-lucky senior citizen.
Following his viral pandemic fame, Leslie appeared on CNN's New Year's Eve 2021 countdown, ringing in 2022 with Anderson Cooper and Andy Cohen.
Leslie also acted in movies, including ... "The Help" and "Ski Patrol" and he made guest appearances in tons of TV shows like "Murphy Brown," "Ugly Betty," and "Boston Public."
On Sunday, Leslie posted a video on Instagram of himself singing a hymn.
The last time we saw Leslie out in public was pretty recently ... our photogs got him just last month, gauging his reaction to Elton John and Britney Spears releasing a new song together.
Leslie was 67.
RIP, Beverley Leslie. My condolences to his business partner, Benji.

P.S. What do we make of this? Unless a lab really screwed up, it’s hard to see how the performance-enhancing drug Roxadustat just happens to wind up in someone’s blood sample.

Back to Life
Finished off our Scandinavian Swing with two more days in Copenhagen, where we visited the graves of Hans Christian Andersen (1805-1875) and Soren Kierkegaard (1813-1855) in the Assistens Cemetery before going on a spending spree at the flagship Royal Copenhagen store. (Gifts/souvenirs galore!)
It was an eye-opening trip -- so this is what a country with a social safety net that isn’t bent on controlling your every move looks like? -- immediately driven home by our grim return to NYC, where we were barked at some seven times merely going through customs and getting on mass transit. I have no logistical way to move to Denmark et al. But for the life of me I cannot understand why Damian and I could spend two weeks in unfamiliar foreign countries and never once get snapped at, but have to be constantly micromanaged by everyone we come in contact with in our hometown. Forgive me while I come back down to earth. 😩😩😩
