Miss Baltimore....CRAHAAAAAAABBBBS!!

Well, how fun is this? Belinda Carlisle steps into the role of Velma Von Tussle in the award-winning West End production of the musical "Hairspray" at the Shaftesbury Theatre, beginning on Oct. 26. (I never even saw it on Broadway, perhaps it's time for a trip to London.) While I'm sure you know the role was made famous by Debbie Harry in John Waters' 1988 non-musical classic, it was the casting of Michelle Pfeiffer in the musical adaptation that made me pause. Sure, she and Deb could be twins, but if you've ever heard Michelle's demo of "I'd Be Surprisingly Good for You" from her days of chasing "Evita" you'd fully appreciate how ironic it was.

I just sat through the ENTIRE Michelle Pa-Fifer's demo... and I'd like to say: I hate you.

I want that time back.

No wonder I've never made it through Grease 2...

Hey

Come on over to London and I'll buy you a pint at some non touristy pub.

Love your blog - it's an inspiration as to what I should do....if only I pulled my finger out!

All the best, Will

Belinda is gonna be sensational!

Michelle was FAB as Velma in Hairspray ... and let's not forget she was nominated for an Oscar for playing lounge singer Suzy Diamond in that movie with the Bridges brothers back in 1989 or 1999 or something. Who cares about that demo, it is what it is, a demo! And let's face it, Evita was an overall annoyance of a movie ... the only thing that saved it was Madge.

But yes, Belinda will be great too.

Remember Belinda's demos? ("Waiting for a Star to Fall"?) LOL She will be fab as Michelle was in the movie!

P.S. How'd you think up that sensational headline? :)

LOL! And yes, I do remember that "winning" demo, which I just happen to have right HERE.

That's rather unfair. Michelle Pfeiffer and Madonna are comparable singers, imo. Neither has a big range or great technique. And if Madonna could sound decent singing the score, I'm sure Michelle Pfeiffer could as well with the equivalent studio help.
